There is a debate among historians if Arjan Lavoie ever existed. Some claim he is nothing more than a fictional character. Their reasons for this opinion is that no evidence of his existence can be found inside historical records, and the existence of things--like dragons--that aren't real. Those whom support the idea that Arjan had actually lived claim that he has been erased from the achieves, and that there are dragons mention within stories of other figures within their history. Those whom believe he never existed claim that they had no reason to erase him for history. That there are figures whom are a equal if not greater source of controversy than he was that have been kept within the achieves, and that the dragons mentioned in context with real historical figures are nothing more than stories. There is no mentions of dragons within their official records. At least, this was the debate in a nut shell until very recently.

The emergence of dragons have many reconsidering their stance on whether or not Arjan actually existed as well as strengthen the belief of those whom always believed he did. They say that if an entire species can be erased from the historical records than removing a single person from them would be no problem. However, for some of those whom believe he never truly lived the existence of dragons does nothing to change their opinion. They claim there are more evidences that support Arjan not being real than dragons. Those whom believe he had actually lived claim that if dragons turned out to be real that there is nothing stopping the other aspects of his story for being real as well. However, whether or not someone believes Arjan ever lived the one thing everyone seems to agree upon is that his story has fascinated people for centuries.

Arjan was born during the dragons war. It was a bloody conflict that according to his story started around the beginning of the dark age. It is not started how the war had started, and Arjan was said to be born during the time that the two major players of the war---dragons and witches--were so at each others' throats that just a single glance was enough for them to try to kill each other. He was born inside a small village in Mirannis. His mother was said to be very beautiful. Some say that she was so beautiful that the stars themselves sung her praise. It was this beauty that drew the man whom sired Arjan's attention. He was a dragon. It is never stated what type of dragon. What is clear is that once he laid eyes upon Arjan's mother that he decided he needed to have her. Some claim he took her by force. Other that he wooed her, and that she came to love him just as much as he loved her.

Whatever the truth, Arjan's mother returned to her village after being gone for some time pregnant. The villagers inquired on whom the father was, but any attempts were repelled. However, some suspected the truth and whispers of this truth along with their opinion on their thoughts about keeping Arjan spread around the village. These whispers said that shouldn't have kept him. She should have killed him, or at the very least abandoned him in the wilderness for the monster whom sired him to find him because foul beasts always sought out their own. His mother whenever she heard these whispers would make it clear that she was displeased. Yet, in spite these cruel whispers Arjan had a happy childhood. It was clear to everyone that his mother loved him. He was the apple of her eyes, and he had many friends.

He was adventurous, mischievous and above all else curious. It was around the age that magical puberty hit that Arjan learned the rumors behind his father's identity had been true. He was eager to enter into his magical puberty. For many young witches, the onset of the magical puberty revealed their specialization, and Arjan was excited to learn what his might be. He often expressed a hope that he had inherited his mother's specialty, but every once in awhile he would imagine what it was like to have another one he thought was cool. However, when entered the age of magical puberty something altogether different happened. He transformed into the form of a dragon. Arjan was horrified. . Dragons were heartless monsters, or so that what the people of his village often said. He didn't want to be a monster. His distress was obvious to his mother, whom asked him what was the matter.

He didn't want to tell her. He was uncertain if she realized the truth of his father's identity. How would she react if she learned the truth? She never expressed the hatred that some of the other villagers did for dragons, but that did not mean she didn't harbor some. However, his mother revealed she had known the truth of what his father had been by asking him if it had anything to do with being half-dragon? He confirmed that it did.His mother told him that it did not matter what his father was---his parents' identity did not make him, and besides nothing as perfect as he could be a monster. While her words didn't completely alleviate his fears it did soothe it.

Several weeks passed when a group of dragons came to their small village. They made it clear that they had come for Arjan. Some say that they had been searching for him for years. That his father held an important position within dragon society and that they believed him to be his heir. Others claim that it was his transformation that made them aware of his existence and that they came to bring one of their own home. Whatever the truth they demanded that the village had Arjan over. His mother, of course refused. Arjan thought that was it. He believed the villager were going to give the dragons what they wanted, but they ended up surprising him by supporting his mother's decision. He was one of them, and one did not abandon one of their own. The dragons tried to convince them, but those attempts fell upon deaf ears.

Tension begun to rise until violence exploded. When everything was said and done, the dragons had one. They had killed everyone---expect for Arjan---within that village. It is said that upon seeing everyone he loved slain that he became filled with such rage that the very ground shook from the force of it. He told the dragons to kill him now because if they let him live that he will slay every last of them. Some say he meant only the dragons standing before him while others claimed he meant the entire species. Either way, the dragons did not kill him. They just left after giving him an apology. He than went on to bury his entire village, singing a dirge that some claimed to be so touching that the lands where his village once stood can still be heard singing it.

Once that was done, Arjan left his village and went out into the world to make good on his promise. Whether or not it is believed that when he made his promise that he meant only those dragons whom took part in the attack on his village or their entire species,  it is agreed that after exploring the world that he decided to kill them all. Most versions of his story claimed this decision was made after seeing the horrendous acts dragons were doing to his people. There are a few which claimed that while these acts touched him that they were not what moved him to kill them all, and the thing that convinced him to make this decision was the belief that if he killed them all, or at the very least enough, that he will erase the dragon blood from his veins.

He became not only a great dragon slayer, but a hero. Through, there is a debate on how much of a hero he really was. Some believe that anyone saved from his actions was just a coincidence, and that he never thought twice about sacrificing the innocent to achieve his goals. Others claim that he while his goal was to kill every dragon that he never sacrifice the innocent to make it happen, and that he would go out of his way to help those whom he believed deserved his aid. Whatever the truth, what can be agreed upon is that many believed that he alone was responsible for the almost annihilation of the dragon race. There were other slayers, of course. Each killing the dragons for their own reasons, but none were as good at it as Arjan.

The dragons became fearful for their people. They knew they were facing total annihilation, and wanted to keep themselves from dying out. It is unclear what happened next. None of the verisions of Arjan story have a definite answer. Through, they did give some possibilities. Some idea are the remaining dragons got together and killed Arjan, or trapped him inside another realm. Through, it is said this did little to save their people and that the dragons made the world believe they never existed. Others say that the dragons skipped right to making it so it appeared they never were, and that Arjan having no purpose just wandered off. Many claim that the dragons had the aid of a red haired female. Whatever the truth, it is believed that Arjan will return.
